To "intersect" can be defined as a meeting point or sharing of a common area.It can also mean to cut or divide by passing through or across.Similarly, our identities, based on factors such as perceived "race", gender, language, religion, disability, age and class, can enable us to share common experiences and work towards self-determination.However, without a strong voice and support, these factors can result in social marginalisation and multiple barriers.

The panel will explore effective strategies to better understand, support and empower people at the intersection and challenge the discrimination that they face.

Sandra Collard will discuss her work in Aboriginal health and the Aboriginal Disability Network.Maria Osman and Pui San Whittaker will reflect on their experiences since the World Conference Against Racism in Durban, South Africa, 2001.
