National Conference On Racism In A Global Context

Abstracts - Workshop

Session 11 Stream 4, 1.00-2.00pm, Senate

Law & Order, ethnic minorities and the police - experiences and action

Chris Konrad (Metropolitan Migrant Resource Centre)

Ethnic minorities are often seen as either the targets or the causes of law and order difficulties in Australia and other countries. For example, this can occur through the linking of particular types of crime to specific ethnicities, or by highlighting and focusing on crime within particular minority groups.

This workshop explores and challenges these ideas and perceptions from the perspectives of community members, service providers and the police.

The workshop will include contributions from a range of affected groups, including representatives from Indigenous, African, and Asian communities.

Session 11, Stream 4

Date & Time: Sunday 11 November (1.00pm)

Location : Senate
